Will the counsellor give me advice?

The aim of counselling is to help you find your own answers and make your own decisions. Your counsellor will not offer you advice but work with you to support you in finding those answers.

Will what I say in sessions be confidential?

Confidentiality is extremely important in the counselling relationship. During sessions you are free to talk through anything that may be troubling you in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. Anything you choose to bring to session will remain entirely confidential, there are however some exceptions to this.

These exceptions will be discussed with you fully during your initial counselling session.

How many sessions will I need?

Each client is unique in what they choose to attend counselling for, therefore the number of sessions clients attend varies. This can be discussed with you during your initial session but it is important to remember there is no obligation to attend a certain number of sessions and the decision to attend counselling will always remain with you. During the counselling process you will regularly check in with you counsellor to discuss how you feel your counselling journey is going and assess the number of sessions involved.

How long and how often are sessions?

Sessions can be done in person or online. Sessions last 50 minutes and usually happen once a week. Counselling is an investment, therefore attending counselling consistently and regularly will allow you to build the momentum in your sessions to work through what you are experiencing successfully. If, however you feel that you need sessions less frequently, this can be discussed with your counsellor.
